This star has been considered to be physically associated with alpha UMa (W.P. Bidelman, Publ. Astron. Soc. Pacific, 70, 168, 1958). Petrie considered that the systemic velocities and trigonometric parallaxes of the two systems did not support this view. Their angular separation is 6'. The systemic velocity of alpha UMa is still uncertain however.
