CU4: kickoff meeting
Brussels, April 3-5 2006

Objectives

The main objective of this kickoff meeting is to gather (potential) code suppliers and CNES representatives to make sure we understand each other and also we all understand what DPAC expects from us.

The meeting will therefore focus on interactions between tasks, triggering conditions, data I/O, FLOPs estimate, ... for the different pieces of the reduction pipeline rather than on the scientific justification of the interest of such or such objects.

Foreseen topics also include validation of the overall work package structure for CU4, translation of that abstract structure into software, developer support, development schedule and milestone definition.

We look forward for the presentation of results of codes under development, even preliminary results from rudimentary codes.

Schedule

The meeting will begin on Monday April 3rd at 9:00 AM (Solvay room, 5th floor of the N.O. building) and will end in the early afternoon of April 5th.

Some of the needs of the two main components of CU4 (Non Single Stars in one hand and Solar System Objects in the other) are rather specific and distinct. Two sessions will therefore hold in parallel for 50% of the meeting, essentially Tuesday and early Wednesday.

The programme is available here. No schedule is fixed, especially on Tuesday since the two splinter sessions will essentially consist in discussions.

Registration

All interested participants must register with D. Pourbaix as soon as possible so he can make some local arrangements. Those willing to present their results should say so and should provide a rough estimate of the time they need.

Venue

The meeting will take place in the NO building of the Plaine campus of the Université Libre de Bruxelles. This campus is located on the South East of Brussels. Though it is just 20 minutes away from Brussels National Airport by car, the congestion on Monday morning is such that it is not advisable to try to make it that way.

There are train connections from the airport to Central Station every 20 minutes or so. The ride takes about 20 minutes. The campus is located next to the metro station Delta on line 1A which also stops at Central Station and several other downtown metro stations. It takes about 20 minutes from Central Station to Delta and then a ten minute walk.

Ryan Air, a low cost airline company, flies to Charleroi (Brussels South Airport) located 50 kilometers South of Brussels.

Accommodation

Participants are responsible for their own accommodation. Here are a few web sites with hotels in Brussels.

Social dinner

The social dinner is scheduled for April 4th at "Chez Soje", next to the Simonis metro station
